From Norton Priory Museum & Garden

A bone excavated from a 13th century context was identified as the vertebra from a porpoise. it may be that it was washed up on the shore, or was caught in the nets of a local fisherman. Porpoise was apparently regarded as a delicacy in the medieval period, so this could have been an unexpected treat for the canons!
