The last member of the Wolsentcroft family to own and live in Tonge Hall has died.

Captain Norman Wolstencroft died last month after suffering a kidney infection. He was the last of his family to occupy the once-magnificent Tonge Hall after his ancestors first married into the Tonge family in 1638.

The Tudor hall is currently in the process of being transferred to the North West Building Preservation Trust after the building deteriorated in recent years, with English Heritage placing the building on its at risk register.
