Guardian guest blogger Jonathan Melville finds the National Museum embracing virtual communities – interesting concept

“Known for preserving Scotland’s past across its five sites, National Museums Scotland (NMS) is increasingly looking to the digital world to help it carry out its work.

In my third and final report on the rise of online volunteering in Edinburgh, I spoke to Hugh Wallace, Head of Digital Media at NMS, about their recent "virtual volunteer" position.

The role, focused on the NMS Flickr account, compliments the 200 volunteer positions which make a vital contribution to its work.

You can listen to the interview, recorded at Edinburgh Coffee Morning, via audioboo.
